Many well established small internet providers have made great strides in internet service and often at a large discount to the major internet providers with nationwide or regional local access numbers, ypically much larger than the local/ regional providers.

Basic homepage
The word basic or generic homepage may be an overstatement as often they are a pasted assemblence of services and tools from there homepage needs and content clearly was never meant to become a well choriographed ansemblance but it does the job. Nonetheless most of us change our homepages to something more interesting or another Web portal like the Yahoo's, Excite, MSN, etc were we have our free web email account.

Customer support
Another greatly varying factor, may depend upon the level internet service you purchase. Customer support can range from live phone support to email or online chat.

Pricing
Prices vary greatly among the smaller providers but it can be as much as the large isp's or less than half the cost of their larger counterparts.

Email accounts styles will vary greatly but one should expect an emai address to be included with the package.
